GN route: an apology
We apologise to our Great Northern customers for the reduced service yesterday due to overrunning engineering work related to Network Rail commissioning the new signalling system in the Alexandra Palace area. Because of this we were unable to access the depot at Hornsey to access over 25 of our trains, which placed a major restriction to the access to our fleet of trains and lead to widespread displacement of rolling stock and drivers.
To allow us to operate as consistent a service as possible we introduced a revised timetable for the day.
This allowed us to publish full train times that we were confident we could deliver early in the day and meant that you could plan your journey. We did operate fewer trains than normal and although we continually reviewed the situation and added extra trains were we could, trains were very busy.
We have asked Network Rail to conduct a full enquiry into what went wrong so that lessons can be learned and a reoccurrence prevented. We will also be reviewing our own processes to improve the service we deliver to our passengers during disruption.
If your journey was delayed by more than 30 minutes, you can claim compensation through delay repay.

Fleeced: we get less room than sheep on the train
COMMUTERS on packed trains have long complained of being treated like cattle — but if only that were true.
It has been revealed that some passengers are being provided with less space than the minimum acceptable for livestock transportation. The government has assumed that a non-seated train passenger occupies 0.5m x 0.5m (0.25m2) of floor area — around the size of a sofa cushion.
